In the era of Moneyball, nerds are taking over baseball front offices. Some of those nerds are women. Yesterday, the Cardinals’ front office hired Emily Wiebe as a baseball analyst.
There are a lot of nerds competing to get their foot in the door at baseball. I like that Ms. Wiebe did it by going up to a guy who was struggling to set up his equipment and saying, “Excuse me. Do you need some help?”
Here’s hoping Emily uncovers the next consensus Hall of Famer hiding in the 13th round.

I like that the word “nerd” doesn’t signal that the person you’re talking about is a man or a woman. I know many, many from each gender –and trans-gender people ,too, I suppose — who qualify. Keep writing, Milt!
